About
Philipp Egli is a prominent Swiss choreographer, dancer, and educator based in Zurich, with a career in contemporary dance and cultural education spanning over three decades. His professional journey began performing with Compagnie Philippe Saire in Lausanne and later with ROSAS under Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker in Brussels. In 1995, he founded his own company, MOLTeNi, in Zürich, marking the start of his choreographic endeavors.
From 2001 to 2009, Egli served as the artistic director and chief choreographer of the dance division at Theater St. Gallen, where he introduced innovative site-specific works through the acclaimed “Raumgriffe” series, transforming unconventional spaces like train depots and workshops into dynamic performance venues. His leadership extended to co-directing the legendary Swiss visual and mask theater group Mummenschanz from 2012 to 2016, touring internationally and gaining profound experience in figure and mask performance.
Presently, Egli is the artistic director of Wolke7-stageworks and egli_items, and he leads TANZraum in Affoltern am Albis. His choreographic works are known for their blend of technical precision, poetic expression, and a deep sensitivity to movement and space. Notable recent projects include “Rolling Bones“ for Wolke7, “abGang – eine Lesung mit Hindernissen”, a multidisciplinary performance integrating dance and literature, or „Nuss&Knacker“, an unconventional adaptation of the Ballet „The Nutcracker“ with 70 members of TANZraum Affoltern.
In addition to his creative work, Egli is artistic director of Bachelor Urban and contemporary Dance at Tanzwerk 101 in Zurich. He is a dedicated educator teaching at institutions such as Zurich University of the Arts or Zurich University of Healing Pedagogy. His commitment to dance education and innovative choreography continues to influence the Swiss contemporary dance scene.
